Description
Penderyn, a parish in Brecknockshire, on the river Cynon, adjacent to Glamorgan, 2 miles NNW of Hirwain station on the Vale of Neath section of the G.W.R., 5 1/2 NW of Aberdare, and 8 W by N of Merthyr Tydfil. It has a post office under Aberdare; money order and telegraph office, Hirwain. Acreage, 13,366; population of the civil parish, 1433; of the ecclesiastical, 646. There is a parish council consisting of eleven members. The rocks include limestone, coal, iron ore, and fireclay. The living is a rectory in the diocese of St David's; gross value, £306 with residence. The church, dedicated to St Cynog, is very ancient. There are Baptist, Calvinistic Methodist, and Congregational chapels.
