Ganton, East Riding

Description
Ganton, a village, a township, and a parish in the E. E. Yorkshire. The village stands near the York and Scarborough railway, 8 miles SSW of Scarborough, and has a station on the railway, and a post and money order office under York; telegraph office, Sherburn (York). The parish includes also the hamlet of Potter Brompton. Acreage, 3980; population, 376. The property is all in one estate. Ganton Hall, a picturesque mansion, is the seat of Sir Charles Le-gard, Bart., the lord of the manor. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of York; net yearly value, £165 with residence. The church is ancient but good, has a lofty tower and spire, and several memorial windows. There is a reading-room and library.
