Fountains Earth, a township, partly in the ecclesiastical parish of Middlesmoor and partly in that of Ramsgill, W. R. Yorkshire, between the rivers Skell and Nidd, 4 1/2 miles WSW of Ripon. It includes the village of Lofthouse. Post town, Pateley Bridge. Acreage, 6744; population, 265. The Marquis of Ripon is lord of the manor. There is an endowed, school.
