Denton, a township and an ecclesiastical parish in Otiey parish, W. R. Yorkshire, on the river Wharfe, 5 miles NW of Otiey, and 2 from Ilkley station on the Otiey and Ilkley Joint railway. Post town, Ben Rhyddmg, under Leeds; money order and telegraph office, Ben Rhydding. Acreage, 3240 ; population, 184. Denton Park was formerly the seat of the Fairfaxes; was the birthplace of Fairfax the Parliamentary general, and Fairfax the translator of Tasso; and is now the seat of the Wyvill family. The living is a vicarage-in the diocese of Ripon; gross value, £110 with residence.
