Askham-Richard or West Askham, a parish and a village in the W.R. Yorkshire, contiguous to Askham-Bryan, 3 miles NW of Copmanthorpe railway station, and 6 SW of York by road. There is a post, money order, and telegraph office under York. Acreage, 981; population, 212. The living is a discharged vicarage in the diocese of York; value, £210 with residence. Patron, Sir Andrew Fairbairn. The church is an old building, in the Norman style, which was thoroughly restored in 1879-80. There is also a Wesleyan chapel and two small charities.
