Description
Arksey or Bentley-with-Arksey, a parish in the W. R. Yorkshire, on the G.N.R. and the ri£er Don, 2 miles N of Doncaster. It has a station on the railway, and includes the hamlets of Almhoime, Bodies, Doncaster-Bridgend, Scaw-thorpe, Shafthoime, and Stockbridge. It has a post and money order office of the name of Bentley, under Doncaster. Acreage, 5133 ; population, 1880. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of York; net value, £135 with residence. The church is ancient, and was restored under the direction of Sir G. G. Scott, in 1869-70. There are 2 Methodist chapels, 12 almshouses, and other charities. There are quarries in the neighbourhood, and traces of Roman military works.
