Langford, Steeple, a village and a parish in Wiltshire. The village stands on the river Wylye, 2 miles from Wylye station on the G.W.R., and 6 NW of'Wilton. It has a post office under Bath; money order and telegraph office, Wylye. The parish includes the tithing of Hanging Longford, and comprises 3988 acres; population, 467. A well-preserved British camp, one of the best in England, is on a hill called Yarnborough Castle. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Salisbury; net value, £420 with residence. Patrons, Corpus Christi College, Oxford. The church is ancient but good, was well restored in 1875, and contains a rich altar-tomb to the Mompessons.
