Description
Worth, a parish in Sussex, 1 mile from Three Bridges station on the L.B. & S.C.R.,and 6 1/2 miles W by S of East Grinstead. It includes Crawley Down,Tilgate Forest, Old House Warren, Pound Hill, Rickmans Green, Wakemans Green, Copthorne, and Turner's Hill; contains the railway stations of Three Bridges, Rowfant, and Grange Road; and has post offices of Crawley Down and Pound Hill under Crawley. Acreage, 13,331; population of the civil parish, 4047; of the ecclesiastical, 1813. There is a parish council consisting of fifteen members. Worth Park, Tilgate House, Crabbett Park, Paddockhurst, and the Grove are chief residences. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Chichester; gross value, £700 with residence. The church is an ancient cruciform building of stone in the Saxon style. There are two places of worship for the Countess of Huntingdon's Connexion, and a mission hall.
