Description
Wisborough Green, a parish, with four hamlets, in Sussex, on the Arnn and Wey Canal, 3 miles W by N of Billingshurst station on the L.B. & S.C.R., and 6 NE of Petworth. It has a post, money order, and telegraph office under Billingshurst Acreage, 8862; population of the civil parish, 1629; of the ecclesiastical, 899. Harsfold Manor, Laker's Lodge, and Wisborough House are the chief residences. Drungswich Place was a seat of the early Bishops of Chichester. The living is a vicarage, with Loxwood annexed, in the diocese of Chichester; net value, £220 with residence. Patron, the Bishop of London. The church is Norman and Early English, with a tower and spire. A church is at Loxwood. The Petworth workhouse is in this parish.
