Description
Thorney, West, a parish in Sussex, within Chichester harbour, 4 miles from Emsworth station on the L.B. & S.C.R., and 6 1/2 WSW of Chichester. Post town, Emsworth. Acreage, 1238; population, 150. A considerable tract of land between Emsworth and Prinsted Point has been reclaimed from the sea connecting Thorney with the mainland. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Chichester; net value, £240 with residence. The church was thoroughly restored in 1886. Caedmon the poet was born in this parish.
