Salehurst, Sussex

Description
Salehurst, a village and a parish in Sussex. The village stands on the river Pother, 1 1/2 mile NE of Robertsbridge station on the S.E.R., which is 6 miles N of Battle station, and has a post office; money order and telegraph office, Robertsbridge. The parish contains also Robertsbridge and Hurst Green, and comprises 6565 acres; population, 2061. At Robertsbridge there is a fortnightly market. Iridge Place is the chief residence. Silver Hill is a precipitous, eminence commanding an extensive view. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Chichester; net value £400 with residence. The church is Early English, and has been restored. There are Congregational, Wesleyan, and Calvinist chapels.
