Rusper, Sussex

Rusper, a parish, with a village, in Sussex, 2 1/2 miles NW of Faygate station on the L.B. & S.C.R., and 5 NNE of Horsham. It has a post, money order, and telegraph office under Horsham. Acreage, 3123; population, 548. The Nunnery is the seat of the Hunt family, and occupies the site of a Benedictine nunnery, founded in the time of Richard I. by Archbishop Gervaise, and refounded in 1231 by W. de Braose. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Chichester; net value, £190 with residence. The church is partly Early English, and was partially rebuilt in 1855.
