Pulborough, Sussex

Description
Pulborough, a village and a parish in Sussex. The village stands on the river Arnn, and on the Roman road from Regnum to Londinum, with a station on the L.B. & S.C.R., 50 miles from London, and 9 N by E of Arundel. It has a post, money order, and telegraph office. Acreage of parish, 6395 ; population, 1787. There is a parish council of thirteen members. The village consists chiefly of one long street, and has a weekly corn market on Friday, a cattle market on alternate Mondays, and a fair on Easter Tuesday. Numerous Roman relics have been found. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Chichester; gross value, £1240 with residence. Patron, Lord Leconfield. The church is Early English, and lias been well restored; has a W tower, and contains a Saxon font, a few brasses, and numerous monumental inscriptions. A handsome reredos has been erected. There is a Congregational chapel.
