Penhurst, a parish in Sussex, 3 1/2 miles W by N of Battle station on the S.E.R. Post town, Battle. Acreage, 1455 ; population of the civil parish, 120; of the ecclesiastical, with Ashburnham, 866. The property belongs to the Earl of Ashburnham. The living is a rectory, annexed to the vicarage of Ashburnham, in the diocese of Chichester; net value, £270' with residence. The church is Early English, has a small tower, and has been well restored, chiefly at the cost of the Ashburnham family.
