Goring, Sussex

Description
Goring, a village and a parish in Sussex. The village stands on the coast, 2 miles W of Worthing, and has a station on the L.B. & S.C.R., 62 miles from London. It has a post, money order, and telegraph office under Worthing. The parish comprises 2014 acres; population, 561. Goring Hall is the principal residence. Castle Goring was long the residence of the Shelleys, from whom sprang the poet Shelley, and passed to Sir G. B. Pechell, Bart. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Chichester; value, £280 with residence. The church was rebuilt in 1837 at a cost of £4200.
