Coates, a parish in Sussex, on the river Bother, 4 miles SSE of Petworth station on the L.B. & S.C.R., and within a mile of Fittleworth station. Post town, Pulborough; money order and telegraph office, Fittleworth. Acreage, 347 ; population, 84. The living is a perpetual curacy, annexed to the rectory of Burton, in the diocese of Chichester; value, £120. The church is Early English, and has a bell-turret with shingled spire.
