Description
Catsfield, a parish in Sussex, near the Tunbridge-Wells and Hastings railway, 2 1/2 miles SW of Battle, under which it has a post, money order, and telegraph office. Acreage, 3017; population, 791. Catsfield Place, the seat of the Hayley family, is a chief residence. Normanhurst, the residence of Lord Brassey, is situated on high land in the northern part of the parish; it is a noble mansion containing many fine pictures, and some rare specimens of Italian tapestry. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Chiches-ter; value, £301 with residence. The church is Decorated English. There is a Wesleyan chapel.
