Description
Bury, a parish and a hundred in Sussex. The parish lies on the river Arun, 1 1/2 mile NW of Amberley station on the L.B. & S.C.R., and 5 miles SSE of Petworth, includes the tithing of West Burton, and has a post office under Pulborough (R.S.O.); money order office, Arundel; telegraph office, Amberley (R.S.) Acreage, 3408; population, 531. Bury Hill here is crowned with a large barrow. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Chichester; net value, £330 with residence. Patrons, the Dean and Chapter of Gloucester. The church has been restored. A working men's club and reading-room was opened in 1880.
