Broadwater, Sussex

Description
Broadwater, a village and a parish in Sussex. The village stands 1 1/2 mile N of Worthing station on the L.B. & S.O.R., and has a post, money order, and telegraph office (T.S.O.) under Worthing. It was formerly a market town under the Camois family, who had a castle adjacent to it. The parish includes also the township and town of Worthing. Acreage, 2730 of land and 379 of foreshore and water; population of the civil parish, 15,931; of the ecclesiastical, 3631. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Chichester; value, £427 with residence. The church is. cruciform, and was restored in 1826, and again in 1864. The vicarages of Christ Church, Holy Trinity, and St George in Worthing are separate benefices. There is a reading-room.
