Description
Burgate, a parish in Suffolk, 1 1/2 mile NE of Mellis station on the G.E.R., and 4 1/2 miles WNW of Eye. Post town, Diss, which is the money order and telegraph office. Acreage, 2067; population, 273. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Norwich; net yearly value, £352 with residence. Patron, the Bishop of Norwich. The church has a double-canopied brass of 1409, and is an ancient building of flint in the Early English style of architecture. There is also a Wesleyan chapel.
