Tatenhill, Staffordshire

Description
Tatenhill, a village, a township, and a parish, in Staffordshire. The village lies 3 miles SW of Burton-upon-Trent, and has a post office under Burton-upon-Trent; money order and telegraph office, Rangemore. The township comprises 2625 acres; population, 592. For parish council purposes Tatenhill and Rangemore have been combined, and have a council consisting of seven members. The parish includes-also the townships of Barton-under-Needwood, Dunstall, and Wichnor, and comprises 9647 acres; population of the civil parish, 2804; of the ecclesiastical, 258. Barton-under-Needwood, Dunstall, and Wichnor, form separate ecclesiastical parishes, and a portion of the ecclesiastical parish of Rangemore is also included in this parish. The manor belonged anciently to the Ferrers family, and passed to John of Gaunt, the Somervilles, the Griffyths, and others. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Lichfield; net value, £572 with residence. Patron, the Bishop of Lichfield. The church is a large and handsome 12th century building, and was restored in 1872 and 1890.
