Description
Enville, a village and a parish in Staffordshire. The village stands near the boundaries with Salop and Worcestershire, and near the Stafford and Birmingham Canal, 5 miles NNW of Stourbridge, and has a post office under Stourbridge; money order and telegraph office, Kniver. Acreage, 4986 ; population of the civil parish, 715; of the ecclesiastical, 669. The parish includes the hamlets and manors of Lutley and Morfe. Enville Hall, a seat of the Countess of Stamford and Warrington, shows features of different periods, comprises two wings and a recessed centre, and has fine grounds, which were laid out by the poet Shenstone. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Lichfield; net value, o£677 with residence. The church is partly Norman and Early English, with a Perpendicular tower; it contains many interesting ancient monuments, and some good stained windows and carved oak.
