Description
Odcombe, a village and a parish in Somerset. The village stands 1 1/2 mile from Montacute station on the G.W.R., and 3 miles W of Yeovil. It has a post and money order office under Stoke-under-Ham; telegraph office, Montacute. Acreage of the civil parish, 1119; population, 530; of the ecclesiastical, 554. There is a parish council consisting of five members. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Bath and Wells; value, £300 with residence. Patron, Christ Church, Oxford. The church is Late Perpendicular, restored in 1875, and consists of nave and chancel, with porch and tower. There are Primitive Methodist and Baptist chapels. Hody the theologian was a native. It was the birthplace of Tom Corgat the great traveller. His father was rector.
