Description
Horsington, a village and a parish in Somerset. The village stands near the river Gale, 1 mile NW of Temple-combe station on the Somerset and Dorset railway, and 3 miles SSW of Wincanton, and has a post office under Bath; money order and telegraph office, Templecombe. Acreage of the civil parish, 3130; population, 721; of the ecclesiastical, 751. Horsington House is the seat of the Dodington family. Bricks and tiles are made. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Bath and Wells; gross value, £760 with residence. The church was almost entirely rebuilt in 1884-86, and contains some good memorial windows. An ancient cross is near it There are Congregational, Baptist, and Wesleyan chapels, a large school-house, and charities.
