Description
Ditcheat, a tithing and a parish in Somerset. The tithing lies on the Fosse Way, near the river Brue, 1 1/4 mile from Evercreech station on the Somerset and Dorset railway, and 5 S by E of Shepton Mallet, and has a post office under Bath; money order and telegraph office, Evercreech. The parish includes also the tithings of Allhampton and Lottisham, and the hamlet of Wraxhall. Area, 3703 acres; population, 718. Ditcheat Manor, the seat of the Dawe family, is in the neighbourhood. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Bath and Wells ; value, £565 with residence. The church is Early English, and consists of nave, aisles, and transept, with porch and tower. There is a Wesleyan chapel.
