Description
Compton-Martin, a parish in Somerset, under the Men-dip Hills, 6 1/2 miles SW of Pensford, and 6 from Glutton station on the G.W.R. It has a post, money order, and telegraph office under East Harptree. Acreage, 2614 ; population, 344. The manor belonged to Martin de Tours. The sources of the river Yeo burst from the rock here in a copious stream. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Bath and Wells; value, £270 with residence. The church is Norman, with twisted pillars.
