Description
Withington, a village aud a parish in Salop. The village stands on the Shropshire Canal, 1 1/2 mile NE of Upton Magna station on the G.W.R. and L. & N.W.R., 5 miles NW of Wellington, and 6 E of Shrewsbury. Post town, Shrewsbury , money order and telegraph office, Upton Magna. The civil parish comprises 1144 acres; population, 197. The ecclesiastical parish includes also Walcot township; population, 227. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Lichfield; net value, £130. The church was rebuilt in 1871. It contains a handsome modern reredos, and some ancient brasses.
