Cheswardine, Shropshire

Description
Cheswardine, a village, a township, and a parish in Salop. The township lies on the verge of the county, 4 1/4 miles SSE of Market Drayton, and 7 1/4 N by W of Newport, and has a post, money order, and telegraph office. The parish includes also the townships of Chipuall, Goldstone, Ellerton, part of Sambrook, Sowdley, and the hamlet of Lipley. Acreage, 5490; population, 902. Cheswardine Hall is a fine modern mansion standing in an extensive park. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Lichfield; net value, £150 with residence. The church, with the exception of the nave, arcades, and tower, was restored in 1889.
