Description
Stanton St John, a parish in Oxfordshire, 2 1/2 miles NNW of Wheatley station on the G.W.R., and 4 1/2 ENE of Oxford. It has a post office under Oxford; money order and telegraph office, Headington. Acreage, 2731; population, 497. There is a parish council consisting of six members. The manor belongs to New College, Oxford. Woodperry is a chief residence. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Oxford; gross value, £7 and 266 acres of glebe, with residence. Patron, New College, Oxford. The church, which dates from the time of Edward I., is a beautiful and interesting building of stone, in mixed styles, consisting of chancel, nave, aisles, and an embattled western tower. There is a school endowment which produces about £40 a year.
