Newington, South, a village and a parish in Oxfordshire. The village stands on the river Swere, 2 miles from Bloxham station on the Banbury and Cheltenham branch of the G.W.R., 4 WNW of Deddington, and 6 SW of Banbury, and. has a post office under Banbury ; money order and telegraph office, Bloxham. The parish comprises 1437 acres ; population, 282. The manor belongs to the Brassey family. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Oxford; gross value, £160 with residence. Patron, Exeter College, Oxford. The church, which stands on an eminence, is a fine building of stone, shows features of Norman, Early English, Decorated,. and Perpendicular styles of architecture, and consists of chancel, nave, aisles, S porch, and an embattled western tower. There is a Primitive Methodist chapel and a Friends' meeting-house.
