Description
Winthorpe, a parish in Notts, 1 1/2 mile NNE of Newark railway station. It has a post office under Newark; money order and telegraph office, Newark. Acreage, 638; population, 277. The Duke of Newcastle is lord of the manor. Winthorpe Hall is the seat of the Peirse Duncombe family. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Southwell; gross value, £158 with residence. The church was rebuilt in 1887 in place of the former one, and consists of nave of three bays, N aisle, chancel, baptistery, and western tower with spire; it contains several stained glass windows. There is a Wesleyan chapel.
