Description
Thorney, a village, a township, and a parish in Notts, 2 1/2 miles SW of Saxilby railway station, and 8 E of Tuxford. There is a post office under Newark; money order and telegraph office, Newton-on-Trent. Acreage of township, 2250; population, 186; of ecclesiastical parish, 366. The parish also comprises the townships of Broadholrne and Wigsley. The living is a vicarage with Wigsley and Broadholme annexed in the diocese of Southwell; gross value, £180 with residence. The church was rebuilt in 1850.
