Description
Leverton, South, a village, a township, and a parish in Notts. The village stands half a mile S of Leverton railway station, and 5 1/2 miles E by S of East Retford, and has a post office under Lincoln; money order and telegraph office, Sturton-le-Steeple. The township comprises 2202 acres; population of the civil parish, 366 ; of the ecclesiastical, 356. The manor belongs to the Foljambe family. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Southwell; net value, £245 with residence. Patron, the Bishop of Southwell. The church is old but good, and in the main part of Early English style with remains of Norman work. It consists of nave, aisles, and chancel, with a tower. The chancel was rebuilt in 1869. There are a Wesleyan chapel and some small charities.
