Description
Langar, a village and a parish in Notts. The village stands 2 miles N of the boundary with Leicestershire, and 4 1/2 SSE of Bingham. There is a station with a telegraph office at Barnston on a branch of the G.N. and L. & N.W. Joint railway, and a post office under Nottingham; money order office, Bingham. Acreage of parish, 3870; population, 401. The living is a rectory, with Bamston annexed, in the diocese of Southwell; net value, £195 with residence. The church is partly of Perpendicular date, was partially restored about 1845 and 1851, underwent further restoration at a cost of nearly £1000 in 1865; comprises nave and aisles, with a. tower, and includes transepts, which are the burial places of Earl Howe and of the Chaworth family.
