Gunthorpe, Nottinghamshire

Gunthorpe, a village and a township in Lowdham parish, Notts, on the river Trent, about 2 miles SE of Lowdham railway station, and 9 ENE of Nottingham. There is a post office under Nottingham; money order and telegraph office, East Bridgeford. Population, 355. A bridge spanning the Trent, erected in 1875, connects this township with East Bridgeford. The inhabitants are chiefly employed in framework knitting. The manor belongs to the Broughtons. There is a chapel of ease, erected in 1850, and a Wesleyan chapel.
