Description
Gonalston, a village and a parish in Notts, on an affluent of the river Trent, 1 1/2 mile from Lowdham railway station, and 4 1/2 miles SSW of Southwell. Post town and money order and telegraph office, Lowdham, under Nottingham. Acreage, 1346; population, 115. The manor, with Gonalston Hall, belongs to the Francklin family. An hospital was built at Bradebusk by William de Heriz in the time of Henry III. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Southwell; net yearly value, £262 with residence. The church, Early English, with a tower and spire, was rebuilt in 1852.
