Description
Finningley, a township and a parish chiefly in Notts and partly in the W. R. Yorkshire. The township is all in Notts,-lies on the G.N.R., 4 1/2 miles N by E of Bawtry, and has a station on the railway. Acreage, 2400 ; population of the township, 328 ; of the ecclesiastical parish, 749. The parish contains-also the township of Blaxton, in the W. E. Yorkshire, and the township of Awkley, partly in the W. R. Yorkshire and partly in Notts. It has a post office under Bawtry; money order and telegraph office, Bawtry. The manor belonged to the Frobishers, one of whom was the arctic explorer, Martin Frobisher. Finningley Park, which is in Yorkshire, is the-residence of the Lister family. The living is a rectory in th& diocese of Southwell; net value, £466 with residence. The-church has a pinnacled tower, and was completely restored and reopened in March, 1885. There is a Wesleyan chapeL
