Eakring, a village and a parish in Notts, 4 miles SSE of Ollerton, 5 1/4 NNW of Southwell, and 4 from Farnsfield station on the M.R. Post town, Newark; money order and telegraph office, Ollerton. Acreage, 2567 ; population, 390. The living is a rectory In the diocese of Southwell; value, £482. Patron, alternately Earl Manvers and Baron Savile. The church is ancient. There are Wesleyan and Primitive Methodist chapels. Will Scarlet, the friend of Robin Hood, is said to have resided in Eakring.
