Ridley, a township in Haltwhistle parish, Northumberland, on the river Allen, at its influx to the South Tyne, 1 1/4mile from Bardon Mill station on a section of the N.E.R., and 5 miles E of Haltwhistle. It comprises the hamlets of Alien's Green, Beltingham, and Willimoteswyke. Post town and money order and telegraph office, Bardon Mill. Acreage,. 3726 of land and 49 of water; population, 208. The manor originally belonged to the Ridleys, and then to the Blacketfc family. Ridley Hall is the property of the Hon. Francis. Bowes-Lyon, second son of the thirteenth Earl of Strathmore, to whom it reverted on the death of the late Mrs Davidson, granddaughter of John, ninth Earl of Strathmore. The woods and walks in the grounds are picturesque, and extend several miles up the Alien toward Staward Peel.
