Description
Stoke Albany, a parish, with a village, in Northamptonshire, 3 1/2 miles N from Desborough station on the Kettering, Market Harborough, and Leicester section of the M.R., and 5 E by N of Market Harborough. It has a post office under Market Harborough; money order office, Wilbarston; telegraph office, Desborough (R.S.) Acreage, 1728; population of the civil parish, 286; of the ecclesiastical, with Wilbarston, 802. There is a parish council consisting of five members. Stoke Albany House is the chief residence. The living is a rectory, united with Wilbarston, in the diocese of Peterborough; joint gross value, £397 with residence. The church, which was restored in 1872 at a cost of about £2000, is an ancient building of stone in the Early English and Later styles. There is a Wesleyan chapel.
