Description
Scaldwell, a parish, with a village, in Northamptonshire, on an affluent of the river Nen, 2 1/4 miles NE of Brixworth station on the Northampton and Market Harborough section of the L. & N.W.R., and 7 1/2 N from Northampton. It has a post office under Northampton; money order and telegraph office, Brixworth. Acreage, 1247; population, 276. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Peterborough; gross value, £200 with residence. Patron, the Duke of Buccleuch. The church, which stands upon an eminence, is an ancient building of stone chiefly in the Gothic style of the 13th century, with portions of Early Norman date. It consists of chancel, nave, aisles, S porch, and a western tower, and has a curious ancient font and some good stained glass. There are a Congregational chapel, some small charity estates, and a village library.
