Description
Ecton, a parish and a village in Northamptonshire, on the river Nen, 2 miles N from Billing Road station on the L. & N.W.R., and 5 miles ENE from Northampton, with a post and money order office under Northampton ; telegraph office, Earl's Barton. Acreage, 2303; population, 572. Ecton Hall is a seat of the Sotheby family, and has a summer house by Inigo Jones. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Peterborough; net yearly value, £570 with residence. Patron, the Crown. The church is a building of stone in the Pointed style, and there are Baptist and Wesleyan chapels. Whalley, the editor of " Bridge's County History," was a native, and the ancestors of Franklin for three centuries were residents.
