Description
Toft Monks, a parish, with a village, in Norfolk, 1 1/2 mile from Aldeby station on the G.E.R. It has a post office under Beccles; telegraph office, Beccles. Acreage, 2232; population, 390. There is a parish council consisting of five members. The manor belongs to King's College, Cambridge. An alien priory was founded here in the time of Henry I., attached to the abbey of Preaux in Normandy, and on the dissolution of alien priories in the reign of Edward I. passed to King's College, Cambridge. The living is a vicarage, annexed to Haddiscoe. The church has a fine octagonal tower, and was restored in 1873.
