Hempton, a village and a parish in Norfolk. The village stands on the river Wensnm, half a mile S from Fakenham station on the G.E.R., is suburban to Fakenham, had an Augustinian priory of the time of Henry I., was once a market-town, and has cattle fairs on Whit-Tuesday, the first Wednesday of Sept., and 22 Nov. Post town and money order and telegraph office, Fakenham. The parish comprises 532 acres; population, 476. The manor belongs to the Marquis of Townshend. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Norwich; gross value, £20 with residence. Patron, the Crown. The church, erected in 1855, is a building of stone in the Early English style.
