Cressingham, Great, a village and a parish in Norfolk, on the river Wissey, 4 1/2 miles W by N of Watton station on the G.E.R., and 6 SSE of Swaffham, with a post office under Watton (S.O.); money order and telegraph office, Watton. Acreage, 2431; population of Great Cressingham, 479 ; of Bodney, 82. The living is a rectory, united with the rectory of Bodney, in the diocese of Norwich; joint net yearly value, £361 with residence. Patron, the Lord Chancellor. The church is a fine Gothic building of stone. A small portion of the ancient carved rood screen remains, and is fixed to a screen of modern design. There are three brasses, the earliest dated 1497; A hermitage chapel formerly stood at Stone Close. A fuel allotment of 33 acres produces about £42 a year.
