Barney, or Berney, a parish in Norfolk, 1/2 mile from Thursford station on the Eastern & Midlands railway, and 6 miles ENE of Fakenham. It has a post office under Dereham; money order office, New Walsingham; telegraph office, Melton Constable. Acreage, 1408; population, 284. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Norwich; net yearly value, £120 with residence. Patron, Lord Hastings. The church is an old building of flint, with an embattled tower. There is also a Wesleyan chapel.
