Springthorpe, a village and a parish in Lincolnshire, 5 miles E of Gainsborough, and 4 NE from Lea station on the Spalding and Doncaster Joint line of the G.E.R. and G.N.R. There is a post office under Gainsborough; money order office, Corringham; telegraph office, Gainsborough. The parish, which includes the hamlet of Sturgate, has an area of 1186 acres; population, 176. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Lincoln; net value, £150 with residence. Patron, the Lord Chancellor. The church, which is the only one in England dedicated to St George and St Lawrence, is a very ancient building in mixed styles, with a Saxon tower and some Norman remains. It has a good stained window and an Early English font. There is a Primitive Methodist chapel.
