Description
Somersby, a parish in Lincolnshire, 6 1/2 miles ENE of Horncastle station on the Lincoln and Boston branch of the G.N.R. Post town, Spilsby; money order office, Tetford; telegraph office, Partney. Acreage, 611; population of the civil parish, 46; of the ecclesiastical, 105. The manor, with all the land, belongs to the Burton family. The living is a rectory, with Bag Enderby annexed, in the diocese of Lincoln; joint net value, £300 with residence. The church is an ancient edifice of sandstone in the Perpendicular style. There is a beautiful ancient cross in the churchyard. The late Lord Tennyson, poet-laureate, was born here in 1809, his father, the Rev. G. C. Tennyson, being rector of the parish at the time.
