Description
Saleby, a village and a parish in Lincolnshire. The village stands 2 1/2 miles NNE of Alford station on the East Lincolnshire section of the G.N.R., and 11 SE from Louth. Post town and money order and telegraph office, Alford. The parish contains also the hamlet of Thoresthorpe, and comprises 1789 acres; population, 195. The manor belongs to Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Lincoln; net value, £250 with residence. The church, rebuilt in 1850, is a building of white brick in the Decorated style, consisting of chancel, nave, S aisle, S porch, and belfry; it has a tomb of 1302. There is a Wesleyan chapel.
