Ponton, Little, a parish in Lincolnshire, on the old main coaching road from London to York, on Ermine Street, the river Witham, and the G.N.R., 1 1/2 mile N of Great Ponton station, and 2 1/4 miles S of Grantham. It has a post office under Grantham; money order office, Grantham; telegraph office, Great Ponton (R.S.) Acreage, 1987; population, 216. The manor belongs to the Tumor family, who are sole landowners. Little Ponton Hall was occupied formerly by the Duke of Cleveland, and is occupied now by the Longstaffe family. Many Roman relics have been found. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Lincoln; net value, £340 with residence, in the gift of the Turnor family. The church is an ancient building of stone in mixed styles, has some Norman remains, and consists of chancel, nave, N aisle, and S porch.
